Advent Meditation by Nancy Dobi
From Psalm 27:
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
When I read this psalm, I also have to add ” WHAT shall I fear” and “of WHAT shall I be afraid”.
In today’s world, apparently everyone and everything. Some souls are really suffering. The spirit weakens and the body follows. Fear does that.
People have asked me how I am able to remain hopeful and even cheerful during these trying times. I reply, “it’s my faith” and I say it with true humility.
At first there is silence. Then a response of “oh” or a nod of the head and the conversation moves onto a different topic. If I had added that Advent is on the way and it will be a ray of sunshine after nine months of darkness and despair and fighting to keep the glass half full, I can only imagine how that statement would have been received!
Advent has finally arrived! It’s not the just the hope of a better day, it’s the promise of a better future. We can be sure of that. We can trust it.
Amen.
